August 2011

 Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe that school will start in a few weeks!  We are putting the finishing touches on making the school sparkle for the students’ return! The 2010-2011 school year was a very successful year and we are excited about the upcoming school year.

During the second week of August, families will be receiving a packet of information from the school.  We realize that you will begin to receive a lot of “papers” from school.  It is extremely important to take the time to read the materials and respond when necessary.  Included in this packet is a letter from your child’s teacher, a supply list, an opt-out letter concerning communications, the county’s Bullying and Harassment Policy, Arrival and Dismissal Procedures, and Notification of Availability of Asbestos Management Plans.

The first day of school for students in first through fifth grade is Monday, August 29th. (Preschool 3’s, Prekindergarten, and Kindergarten students have varying starting dates which is explained in the letter from the teacher.)  As a reminder:

·       There is no adult supervision for students until 8:10 am.  Students should not be dropped off at school before 8:10 am.

·       The drop off line takes place in the front parking lot.  There is teacher supervision in this lot beginning at 8:10 am.  Parents who need to park their cars need to park in the side parking lot.

·       Breakfast is served beginning at 8:10 am and ends at 8:30 am.  Students arriving after 8:30 am will not receive breakfast.

·       All other students enter the building at 8:25 am.

·       Students are considered late who arrive after 8:40 am.  It is important that your child arrives as close to 8:25 am in order to organize their materials and prepare for the day. Instruction will begin immediately following the 8:40 announcements.

·       The school day ends at 3:05 pm.  All parents/guardians in grades 1-5 should wait under the awning for their children.   (Prekindergarten and Kindergarten parents will receive specific directions from the teachers concerning where to pick their students up.)

Back to School Night for students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 5 will be on Thursday, August 25th at 6:15 pm. Students and parents will be provided with an opportunity to meet the teacher, see the classroom, learn about classroom routines and procedures, and receive and overview of the school year.  It is a wonderful and very important way to begin the school year!

6:15-6:40              Rita’s Ice Cream Social and Welcome Back Greetings Outside in front of the school

6:45-7:15              Classroom Visitation for Grades K-5

7:20-7:45              Classroom Visitation for Grades K-5 (During this time, teachers will repeat the presentation for parents with more than one child attending school.)

We look forward to seeing everyone on August 25th for Back to School Night and on August 29th for the first day of school!!  Enjoy the rest of your summer, read with your children, and practice their math facts!!  See you soon!

 Sincerely,

Mrs. Lichter, Principal
